What is the Aura?

An outline of a human with a multi-colored aura.

Hearing the word “aura” captures the attention and imagination of many people. There is a feeling that it points to a deeper layer of truth about our lives. This writing will take you on a short magic carpet ride into a few of the many secrets of the aura.

Diving Deeper into the Mysteries of the Aura

Whether you are just starting your spiritual journey or are looking to deepen it, gaining an understanding of what the aura is and what it means is vital. Read on for some key facts about what it means to have an aura.

Aura Definition

What is it?

The “aura” is the name for the electromagnetic field that surrounds a human. It is an egg-shaped formation that extends approximately one meter (three feet) in all directions around a person. Interestingly, as a person pursues a spiritual journey there is a point along the path where their aura naturally starts to expand.

What Color is My Aura?

The word “aura” is used in our everyday thoughts and language.

“What color is my aura?” a man wonders as he fills out an online aura quiz.

“I don’t trust him.  I sense something is off with that man’s aura,” the President says to her confidant about her new bodyguard.

“Our auras are so compatible!” a woman says when speaking about her new boyfriend.

These are all examples of basic understandings of the aura that are intuitively right.

In our experience, what people are hungry for is deeper understandings of the aura as they sense, correctly, that this knowledge can make a difference in their lives. The colors you radiate reflect what is going on inside of you. One of the meanings of green in an aura is a person being in a creative state. Here is something interesting: Did you know there is a way to fill your aura with a particular blue energy that will make you less prone to connecting to and feeling the stress of others?

Pathways of Possibility regularly holds online meetings designed to help people see the aura. After showing participants techniques that help them see auras, a team member uses a special technique to fill their aura with an unnamed color.  We then ask people to see what color of energy is being radiated. Amazingly, people who have just learned to see these energy fields, often see the color on the first try. It speaks to how natural it is for a human to see auras. Anyone can do it. So can you.

One way to a deeper understanding of the aura is to get a better grip on the auric sheath and its function. This is the name for the edge of the aura. Like a cell membrane that determines what can and what cannot get into the cell, the auric sheath is a filter for what energies travel into and out of the aura.

As a person develops spiritually, their auric sheath becomes a finer filter. It is better able to block out coarser energies such as insecurity, stress, anger and loneliness while being able to contain fine bright energies such as inspiration, confidence and determination. This brightening process of the aura of a person on a spiritual journey has been well known for thousands of years and can be seen all over ancient art. Below is an almost 500-year-old statue of Buddha from a temple in Northern India.

If you look at this picture with the knowing of an aura, you can see the sculpture portrays the physical Buddha surrounded by an aura.

If you look closely, there are many curious features in this statue that point to how an aura works. We provide more insight into these at our See the Aura event.

Why are there 18 arms extending from each side of the Buddha?

What was the artist hinting at with the additional images of his face on the left side?

Let’s focus on the bright red band on the edge of his auric sheath.

This formation is rare. It portrays an unseen firewall he has built through his development journey that can burn off unwanted energies—such as the anxiety of others—from coming into him. As a person develops for real, they too will have their auric sheath strengthen, making them less susceptible to the unfortunate energies they meet in everyday life.

When you learn to see the aura, you will realize that each person’s aura and its colors are changing constantly. The quality of this energy is on a band from coarse to fine and will show up differently in each person and in each moment, according to what is going on inside of them.

Another interesting territory is aura holes. The auric sheath has pores, similar to a cell membrane. Without development, or through unfortunate events that may have happened to a person these pores can develop into holes. This can make a person accident-prone and very susceptible to people around them. These holes can be sealed up as a person starts to refine and tap into the natural healing forces of the planet. We will explain more at our event entitled The Aura: Colors, Holes and Headaches.

This short writing is only the tip of the iceberg of understanding the human energy field and its significance to a person’s life.

P.S. Did you know that your aura can be marked by what you have done repetitively or by impactful events that happened to you in life? These can become very influential in how people see and treat you….
